Overview

As FlowCore is a collaborative initiative, we exist on a completely separate network to both the ASCC and ARMI/Monash University, as illustrated below:
|
The fact that we are a separate network is a crucial point to note for ASCC customers in particular, since the network environment and folder structures will look extremely familiar (as would any Microsoft network). It is very important that you do not confuse our network drive with your own, as the FlowCore network is not suitable for long-term data storage for two reasons:
1. Whilst we do have a small file server connected to our network (which is mapped as K: on all our computers) this is a short-term data store only from which any data more than one month old will be automatically deleted. You will not be provided any warning before this happens.
2. Our server does not have a tape drive or any other off-site backup facility, which means that data stored on our file server is vulnerable to loss in the case of a disaster (such as the building burning down).
For these reasons we strongly recommend that you retrieve your flow cytometry data (including data from bookings on the sorters!) either at the completion of your booking or as soon as you return to your laboratory - please see below for ways in which you can do this. Which ever method you choose please remember that, if you want to keep your data for more than one month, it is your responsibility to retrieve it from the FlowCore short-term file server.
We recommend you store your data in the long term on your institute's research data store (e.g. I:\Research for ASCC customers, LaRDS for Monash/ARMI customers) as these servers have rigorous backup procedures in place. It is not recommended that you only store your data on your desktop computer, thumb drive etc. |

Saving Data To FlowCore's Short Term File Server

If you have booked a cell sort (FACSVantage DiVa or Influx cytometers), the FlowCore operator performing your sort will ensure your data is saved to the network at the conclusion of your experiment.
If you are using the LSRII Analyser, you will need to export your FCS files manually at the conclusion of your experiment - please follow the instructions which can be found posted behind the computer screens and in the LSRII user manual. |

Saving Experimental Templates

If you wish to keep an experiment for use as a template for future experiments, please inform a member of FlowCore staff - they will show you the correct procedure for saving an experiment template. Any data that is not saved according to FlowCore procedures for experimental templates may be deleted after one month.

Retrieving Your Data From The FlowCore Short-Term File Server

You have two main options for retrieving your data:

Access Your Files Remotely Via The FlowCore FTP Server

If you are located on the Monash University Clayton campus you can now access your flow cytometry data folder remotely (i.e. from the desktop computer in your laboratory) by accessing FlowCore's FTP server.
If you would like to use this option, please contact a member of FlowCore staff to be provided with the link and login details for your laboratory's data folder. |

Copy Your Files To Removable Media From A FlowCore Computer

If you cannot or prefer not to use the remote FTP access option, you can copy your files to removable media (USB drive, CD or DVD) from any of the analysis computers in the FlowCore facility. Please ask a member of FlowCore staff if you need assistance doing this.
