| The Facility |
| |
FlowCore is a purpose built core facility providing world-class flow cytometry services to scientists from Monash University and the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI).
The large dedicated laboratory currently houses three high speed sorters and two analysers with the capacity to expand to six sorters and six analysers, making FlowCore one of the top flow cytometry facilities in Australia. Our equipment boasts cutting-edge features such as 561nm yellow/green laser technology and Australia's first five-laser cell sorter and seven-laser analyser, allowing unrivalled flexibility for Melbourne researchers. |

| Location |
| |
| FlowCore is located in room 269 in the north wing of the second floor of building 75 (STRIP1) on Monash University's Clayton campus. For more information on how to find or contact us, click here. |

| |
| Staff |
| |
| FlowCore is run by four dedicated full-time staff with more than 20 years combined experience in flow cytometry. Services provided by our staff include operation of the sorters, provision of training and assistance for the analysers and consultation for researchers requiring help with experimental design. |

| Andrew Fryga - Manager |
| Andrew completed his Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) at Queensland University of Technology in 1989. During the 90's he worked in pathology, haematology, immunology and blood banking laboratories in both Melbourne and London (where he was first exposed to flow cytometry). In 1996, whilst working in the blood bank at the Royal Children's Hospital, he joined the Bone Marrow Transplant Laboratory and spent five years phenotyping leukemia and lymphoma and enumerating stem cells by flow cytometry. He decided to pursue flow cytometry full time and moved to the core laboratory at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in 2001. In 2005 he joined the Australian Stem Cell Centre as the manager of the flow cytometry facility, and now manages the new expanded FlowCore facility. |

| Michael Reistma - Senior Research Officer |
| Michael completed a Bachelor of Science at the University Of California at Berkeley, majoring in the field of Molecular Cell Biology. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, he spent six years performing academic research as a biomedical scientist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and UCSF where he specialized in analytical cytometry. Michael’s academic research was focused on graft tolerance, low frequency detection schemes and stem cell characterization. In 1993 Michael moved to the California biotech industry where he spent the next sixteen years with SyStemix and StemCells, Inc. His research assignments with these two stem cell companies focused on the characterization and isolation of hematopoietic, liver and neural stem cells by flow cytometry. Prior to immigrating to Australia, his career turned toward the development of manufacturing strategies for applying human cell therapy in clinical applications. |

| Karen Clarke - Research Officer. |
| Karen completed a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science at Monash University in 2005, majoring in immunology and media & communications. She went on to achieve first class honours in immunology in a flow cytometry and histology focused project in Type 1 Diabetes. In 2007, Karen moved to the Australian Stem Cell Centre as a research assistant, using flow cytometry to characterise and isolate adult lung stem cells. She joined FlowCore in July 2008 and now assists Andrew in running the facility. |

| Kathryn Flanagan - Research Assistant |
| Kathryn completed a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical) at Deakin University, graduating with distinctions in 2004. She went on to work as an analytical chemist in a research and development laboratory. At the beginning of 2008 she accepted a position as an operator within the flow cytometry facility at the Australian Stem Cell Centre. |
