Which flow cytometer is best for me? Which flow cytometer should I book?

For any questions about your experimental design and which machine will best suit your needs, it is recommended that you ask a FlowCore staff member directly. However, below are a few pointers to help you to decide which cytometer may be best for your experiment.

  • If you are using Alexa488/FITC/GFP, PE, PI and APC/Alexa647 conjugated antibodies:
    • Any cytometer

  • If you have weak APC/A647 signal:
    • Cell sorting: Influx #1 or Influx #2

  • For GFP+ cells (especially if you wish to use PE in your assay simultaneously):
    • Cell sorting: Influx #1 or Influx #2
    • Analysis only: LSRII

  • If you use PE tandem dyes (eg PE-Cy5.5, PE-Cy7):
    • Cell sorting: Influx #1 or Influx #2
    • Analysis only: LSRII

  • If you're using Pacific Blue, Pacific Orange or Qdot conjugated antibodies:
    • Cell sorting: Influx #1
    • Analysis only: LSRII

  • If you're using Alexa568 or Alexa594 conjugated antibodies:
    • Cell sorting: Influx #1 or Influx #2
    • Analysis only: LSRII

  • If you have cells expressing DsRed or mCherry:
    • Cell sorting: Influx #1 or Influx #2
    • Analysis only: LSRII

  • If you want to perform side population analysis or sorting:
    • Influx #1 or FACSVantage-Diva

  • If you want to sort into plates:
    • FACSVantage-Diva is easiest (it is possible on either Influx as well, but allow more time to set up)

  • If you wish to sort 3 or 4 populations simultaneous:
    • Any cell sorter, but please specify "4-way sort" in the special requirements of your booking

  • If you have a large number of cells to sort:
    • Influx #1 or Influx #2

  • If you want to sort cells that are large in size:
    • Influx #1 or Influx #2, but please request either a 90 or 100µm nozzle setup

  • If you wish to perform small particle analysis or sorting (eg platelets):
    • Influx #1 or Influx #2
